Big-ass trolling wobbler..

Purchased a couple of unpainted "Gäddmadamen" at a recent fair and of course decided to go for my new favorite perch-pattern :). I am gonna try some trolling this season and this one really have a nice rolling action.

Pikes, pikes everywhere..

Hi

Was a while since the last update. I have mostly been doing more pikes.. Its really nice that people appreciate the stuff that you do even if I start to get a bit tired of this specific model.. :). What is not so funny is that I am having problems with the clear coat.. namely bubbles. Not big ones but super-annoying when you build a lure for someone else.. I am going to buy a new gasburner and hopefully that will solve it..

Natural Perch

So I have been doing a lot of different stuff lately. I'm finding myself shifting between a more "old-school" coloring and some more realistic looking stuff. Here is a perch-pattern that I was quite pleased with. Hopefully it will give me some big ass spring pikes out in the archipelago..:)

Cake anyone?..

Ok so say you are a dedicated fisherman.. Is it really ok to have an old boring cake-knife when there is something to celebrate? I say NO to old boring cake-knives.. :)

New cake-knife fit for real fishermen:

Old boring cake-knife fit for.. well no one really.. :)

Different shades of Pike..

Here is a couple of new lures made for a fellow Swedish fisherman. Pink is not the color I use most but it was really fun trying something new.. Will be interesting to see if the color work in actually catching anything or if the pikes just want to give it a hug :)

Tail prototype

Im testing a new version of my tailbait. The old one is pretty big and I wanted a slightly smaller version with a fixed tail. This is around 60 grams which is just about right.

This lure is slowsink and can be fished somewhere between 0,5-2 meters

Muräna's prototypes of Madness

Part III - The Hammerhead

Ok so to be honest this wasn't one of my best ideas.. You can actually fish it if you take it home reeealy slow but it is very unstable and has a tendancy to roll. On the other hand it was a lot of fun to do and I think it has a pretty original look.. :)

A pair of pikes

Here is some new stuff. Tried out a pike pattern described by Solarfall (see the links list on the right side of the page)on his YouTube channel. I think the paintjob turned out pretty ok. Took them for a test run a couple of days ago and they have a nice side-to-side action at around 10-20 cm's of depth which will probably be just right for the shallow fishing this spring. One of these where a present for my good friend Toby so I just hoped I kept the right one.. :)

Muräna's Prototypes of Madness..

Part II - The squid

Here is a lure I did about a year back. I was thinking that it would be cool to do a tail like lure looking like a squid. This is the first prototype and it actually moved pretty ok in the water. There are however room for improvement especially with how the bottom hook is attached and also the attachment of the arms (tails?). I am actually working on an improved version right now that I can hopefully show in a couple of weeks..

Muräna's Prototypes of Madness..

Part 1 – Deep sea fish

Here is a little funny project I have been working on.. As the title implies I will continue to post some more of the prototypes I have been doing.

So why do I do these kid of lures? They are a pain to build and the functionality is not always 100%. The quick answer to the question is ..BECAUSE I CAN.. J. For me this is what lure building is all about, to try out new designs, sometimes they work and then you have something really unique to fish with and sometimes they don’t and you can use them to make a little fire on your next fishing trip (which is also nice.. J)

More to come shortly..

Tribute..

Here is a little tribute to the old Abu Garcia color YP.. It worked great on spoons 25 years ago so hopefully it will work on this little jerk as well.. :)

Once again a small lure (15cm/50 gram). It remains to be seen if I can even use it with my overpowered  jerkgear.. :)

Small jerkbait

Hi

Here is a new model I'm testing out . Basically its a smaller version of my ordinary jerk. This one is around 15cm long and approx weight is about 50 grams..

Oldschool..

Here is a new wobbler I have been working on. I have not been very successful with wobblers in the past. Its all about the weighting of course and also I think they are a pain to paint especially if you are using net for the scales. I tried doing this in a very basic oldschool style. Hopefully it will have a good swimming action.. just have to wait for the ice to melt so I can test it.. :)

Repaint

A friend of mine wanted one of his thrashed Svartzonker lures repainted. Not much to say.. its a oldschool perch and it will hopefully catch a lot of pikes.. :)

Blast from the past..

Ok so here is a lure I did a while back. I was really trying to get some carving done. I have to say though that even if I'm not a 100% satisfied with the end result it is still tremendous fun to carve the details from scratch.

Also making wobblers has not been something I have done a lot. Basically I have had problems with the weighting and to get a good side to side/rolling action.

Here we go..

Here is a new lure I did this weekend. Pretty basic side to side jerkbait weighing around 90 grams. I don't use golden colors that much but thought I would give it a go..

Welcome to the Muräna Lures blog

First of all welcome to the new Muräna Lures blog dedicated to the wonderful art of  lurebuildning. This will be a place for me to display my handcrafted lures and hopefully inspire some of you guys in the meantime.

So introductions first. Living in Stockholm, Sweden I have been building lures of and on from 2006. Back then we already had some guys in Sweden doing a lot of nice looking lures but the standards today of course is at a totally different level. For me this is still about the same thing as it was when I first started, to build my own lures for pike fishing and improve my techniques over time. As I primarily only build lures for my own use I am only using wood (oak, beech tree, pine) so I am not casting anything in plastic. Even if it’s pretty slow work it tremendous fun

Decided as well to keep this blog in English even if I am from Sweden. I can use the practice as well J..
